Do men ever really grow up
I have no trouble shopping for boys. I just get what ever I want and then wrap it up and even though I may have outgrown something I can still see it from my kid's POV. We guys have toys. they just get bigger and more expensive. I don't see women having toys. big or small. What gives?
This question came to mind the other day whe I took my 16 yo daughter to a "Train Store" to get our Xmas train fixed (it goes around the tree). The guy laughed and said, "This is really Walmart junk. we don't do HO scale here. I can sell you a REAL train set though."
I declined politely. when I got outside the door I said to my daughter (who was offended), "What the hell is a full grown man playing with train sets anyway?" She laughed. but really folks. what is this thing? Why are men and women so different on that account? It is almost like men never mature (I count myself among them). I have a Jeep, a Shelby GT500 Muscle Car, Telescope, etc. that I "play" with!!
But what do a lot of little girls play when we are young? We play mommy, louis vuitton femmes, house, teacher.
We are living our playtime now. It's harder, but some of us sure had a lot of practice!
If our parents were wise, they encouraged us in the areas of our talents and strengths and we ended up going into the very fields we were playing at earlier in life. My first 'date' in fourth grade was helping a boy collect lizards and frogs. I later loved biology. Today we do rescue work with horses and dogs.
The 'playing house' games I liked the best were the ones where we were allowed to draw the outline of a house on the garage floor and make the rooms and stuff. Later I was married to a contractor and enjoyed helping design spec houses. I have designed most the houses I have lived in as an adult.
When I was a little girl, I followed my beloved Papa around his garden, watching him as he trimmed this, watered that, inspected the other, and showed me where the lizards lived who liked to eat the insects on the berries on his bushes. Today I love gardening. We have an acre of walkthrough gardens with a 45 bush rose garden on one side of the house. Yeah, we have berries, too. and we grow a lot of our food.
Yes, I guess I grew up, but I grew into the very things I had loved as a child.
Like everyone always says, boys and their toys. My boyfriend loves toys and I don't just mean toys meant for big boys, but also legos and nerf guns. I totally encourage him with these things, because I love them too. I think it has something to do with loving to build and create things. I don't think there's anything wrong with someone who likes to have toys, no matter how old they are. I think even girls have their silly things, a boy wanting a nice car or video game is pretty similar to girls wanting lots of make up, shoes, and clothing. Just like when girls play dress up when their little.
